Notifications generated from policies within the workflow do not reach the notification group

There could be three types of potential problems:

  1. Problems with the notification target settings
  2. Issues with the notification group settings
  3. Problems with the policy descriptions within the workflow

Please start your investigation following the sequence from 1 to 3. If none of these problems apply, or if the investigation becomes challenging, please contact the service provider (Flatt Security).

Problems with the notification target settings

If the notification target is Slack

If you cannot receive messages during the "Send a test message to the Slack channel" process, follow "Setting up Slack notifications", complete the configuration, and ensure you are able to receive test messages in the Slack channel.

If you can receive the test message, there are no issues with your notification target settings. However, if you cannot receive it, complete the steps mentioned above, rerun the workflow, and check if the notifications reach the notification group.

If the notification target is Email

Please check your junk email folder, if you still do not see the email notifications, it could be that the email sending whitelist has not been correctly configured.

In Shisho Cloud, sending notifications to email addresses that are not associated with users in your organization is generally prohibited. As such, simply adding an email address not associated with any of the users in the notification group will not trigger the sending of notifications. If you need to set such an email address as the notification target, it also needs to be added to the email sending whitelist. Please review your settings under "Settings ⚙️ > Email Sending Whitelist" and check if your notification email address is included.

Issues with notification group settings

Ensure that the expected notification targets are set correctly and that they can receive test messages properly.

If your intended notification targets are included in the notification group, there are no problems with the notification group settings. However, if there is a problem (e.g., the notification target was not included), correct the settings, rerun the workflow, and check whether notifications are received by the notification group.

Problems with policy descriptions within the workflow

Notifications might not be sent correctly if the policies within the workflow do not generate appropriate Notification objects. To verify that the policies within the workflow are operating correctly, follow the steps below:

  • Refer to the tutorial and check if notifications to the notification group are functioning correctly with a straightforward workflow.

Issues with Slack notification settings

If you cannot receive messages during the "Send a test message to Slack channel" process, follow "Setting up Slack notifications", complete the configuration, and ensure you are able to receive test messages at the Slack channel.

If you can receive the test message, the Slack channel settings are working properly. However, if you do not receive it, after completing the aforementioned settings, rerun the workflow and verify again if the test message is received at the Slack channel following the same steps.

Problems with specifying the Slack notification destination within the workflow

Notifications may not be sent correctly if the policy within the workflow does not generate an appropriate Notification object. To confirm that the policies in the workflow are working correctly, validate the descriptions within your test code.
