Working out loud (WOL) is an approach to share what you are working on with others in a transparent way. It is a way to build trust and collaboration within the team.

What WOL provides

Here's a list of (partial) reasons why we work out loud:

  • Transparency: WOL is a way to share what you are working on with others in a transparent way. It is a way to build trust and collaboration within the team.
  • Feedback: WOL is a way to get feedback from others. It is a way to get help from others when you are stuck.
  • Learning: WOL is a way to learn from others. It is a way to share your knowledge with others.
  • Organization: WOL is a way to keep track of what you are working on. It is a way to keep track of what others are working on.

What WOL doesn't provide

Here's a list of items that WOL doesn't provide (and shouldn't be used for):

  • Micromanagement: WOL is not a way to micromanage others. It is not a way to check what others are working on for management.
  • Blame: WOL is not a way to blame others. It is not a way to point fingers at others when something goes wrong.
  • HR Evaluation: WOL is not a way to judge others. It is not a way to judge others based on their work.
